πŸ“– Running Training & Presenting on User Groups and Hack Days

Before you leave to go to a User Group or other presentation, it is important that you speak to a "Presentation Master" - You should always try show Adam as well (if Adam not in the office, try to do it over IM, if he is unavailable).

You will need to

  1. Know where your venue is and what time you need to be there

    • Example: SSW Sydney at 5pm - 20 mins walk from the North Sydney train station.

Note: If it is your first time presenting, make sure you carefully read Do you craft and deliver engaging presentations?

  1. Use the SSW branded PowerPoint template

    • Make sure you are signed into PowerPoint using your SSW account
    • On Windows: File | New | SSW | Blank
    • On Mac: File | New from Template... | New | SSW | Blank.potx

    Notes:

    • The SSW PowerPoint template contains the Standard presentation, Brainstorming and Spec Review template all-in-one
    • .potx files are for PowerPoint theme templates

  2. Create a new folder here and save your presentation into it: SharePoint - SSW Training Public

    Note: Make sure the version in Sharepoint is the most updated one

  3. Prepare for the presentation. You are allowed the following preparation time:

    • New presentation - 4 hours
    • Existing presentation - 2 hours
    • Content - focus on the demos and not the slides
    • Don't prepare at a client

    Note: this is paid SSW time, you will also need some of your own time to put towards this as well. Becoming a thought leader helps you as well as SSW

  4. If your presentation is new, get an over the shoulder "test please" before showing it to anybody else

  5. Do a tech check

    Think of the best day/time for you to do this and send a message on Teams to the person responsible for scheduling events. It should be 1 week before the event, so you have time to update your presentation before recording the real thing.

    Note: This will be an Outlook appointment with SSWAll and SSW TV.

  6. Read Do you get your "PPTX Testers" to do a 'Test Please'?

  7. ⚠️ Get the content βœ… Test Passed by a Presentation Master.

  8. ⚠️ Get the slides βœ… Test Passed by a Designer

Benefits of giving presentations

Overtime

You get 1 hour sleep in (start 1 hour late the next day).

Note: Do your timesheets based on the actual hours (e.g. 9 hours on Monday and 7 hours on Tuesday)

If you want to claim the overtime, you will need to have it approved by Adam or Uly beforehand

Dinner expenses

You will be reimbursed for dinner (same rules as normal overtime).

Exposure

Your talk will be recorded by SSW TV and and shared to the SSWTV channel. It will then be promoted by the Marketing team. If you want to, you may also share this to your own network for added exposure.
